Pharmacy Practice & Clinical Pharmacy at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences
We are dedicated to practice‑oriented education and research within the pharmacy degree program and to strengthening bidirectional knowledge transfer between academia and real‑world pharmacy settings. This ensures that future pharmacists are thoroughly prepared for evolving professional responsibilities in patient‑centred services and advanced clinical competencies.
Our pharmacy practice research examines how pharmaceutical care is delivered and its impact on health systems, drug use and patient care, and how innovative services are implemented in routine practice.
Our clinical pharmacy work focuses on optimising medicine utilisation to achieve person-centred care and public health goals. It also trains future pharmacists in interprofessional pharmacotherapy optimisation and clinical decision-making.

What is a Professor of Practice
The ETH Board may award the title Professor of Practice to established experts with broad professional experience. Professors of Practice are recruited to strengthen teaching by expanding the curriculum in a targeted, practice-oriented way. Professors of Practice are required to:
- Prove leadership experience at management level
- Have expertise in research and development and the translation of innovation into practice
- Have a strong commitment to student education and active involvement in academic initiatives
- Demonstrate knowledge and technology transfer between academia and professional practice, including effective interface management
The Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences (D-CHAB) is strengthening the practical focus of its pharmacy programmes by appointing a Professor of Practice. This will support the development of patient-centred competencies and respond to the growing demand for primary care in Switzerland.
