The Mukaiyama Award is administered by The Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan, and is awarded to individuals who are 45 years old or younger for exceptional contributions to the field of synthetic organic chemistry. The award comprises $ 5’000, a medallion, and a certificate, and the awardees are invited to present an award lecture. The winner of the 2018 Mukaiyama Award is, among others, Jeffrey W. Bode ETH Zurich. The purpose of the award is to recognize and encourage outstanding contributions to synthetic organic chemistry. The awarded contributions of Jeffrey W. Bode are: Enantioselective Nheterocyclic carbene catalysis, KAHA ligation, the chemical synthesis of proteins, SnAP and SLAP reagents for the preparation of saturated Nheterocycles, potassium acyltrifluoroboronates (KATs) for amide and amine synthesis.
