Obituary Dr. Martin Badertscher
Dr. Martin Badertscher, a long-time scientific assistant at LOC, passed away on October 15, 2021, only a few months into his well-deserved retirement, after a short but ferocious illness. Martin was a lovely, dedicated, quiet person, and ETH was his world. Martin is survived by his brother and sister who said goodbye to him in a closed ceremony in St.Gallen.
Professors appointed at D-CHAB
At its meeting of 8 and 12 December 2021, the ETH Board appointed ten professors. Among them are Cornelia Halin Winter (IPW) and Chih-Jen Shih (ICB) from the D-CHAB. Professor Cornelia Halin Winter, currently Associate Professor, is appointed as Full Professor of Pharmaceutical Immunology. Professor Chih-Jen Shih, currently Tenure Track Assistant Professor is appointed as Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering. For more information, please follow this link.
Paracelsus Prize for Antonio Togni
The Paracelsus Prize is an award of the Swiss Chemical Society for outstanding chemists of international status. It evolved from the Paracelsus Medal, which has existed since 1940. It is endowed with 20,000 CHF and a gold medal. This year, Antonio Togni is awarded the prize for his groundbreaking contributions to organic, inorganic, organometallic chemistry and catalysis both in industry and academia, as well as for his inspiring approaches to teaching & education.
"Teaching gives me energy"
Dr. Renana Gershoni Poranne has put a lot of energy into her course – commonly known as OC4 – and successfully built "bridges": professional ones between quantum chemistry and organic chemistry, and interpersonal ones with her students. The energy always came back to her from the audience, along with beautiful moments. For her commitment, she now received the Golden Owl. Get to know the new excellence scholarship holders at D-CHAB
The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Program (ESOP) of ETH Zurich promotes outstanding students every year. They are among the best and receive support from the donors of ETH Foundation for their Master's studies so that they can concentrate fully on education and research. In the D-CHAB this year, three students were able to convince the jury: Luca Schaufelberger, Stefan Schmid and Nils Lorz. In this article, they briefly introduce themselves.
