August Schubiger deceased
With heartfelt sadness, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPW) informs that August (Gusti) Schubiger, Ph.D., professor emeritus at the IPW, died on April 24th 2024.
Ruth Signorell and Javier Pérez-Ramírez elected members of the Academy of Europe
The Academy of Europe is the pan-European academy of science, humanities and letters, with a membership of over 5000 eminent scholars. It's aim is to promote European research, advise governments and international organisations in scientific matters, and further interdisciplinary and international research. Ruth Signorell and Javier Pérez-Ramírez have now also been elected as a member.
From Zero to Hero – the path to a successful award nomination
The workshop on May 29, 2024, introduces the procedures for award nomination and outlines the requirements for a successful award nomination, presents the process of nomination and selection and provides a glimpse behind the curtains. This workshop targets primarily Assistant Professors, Titular Professors, and Senior Scientists of the four departments D-CHAB, D-BIOL, D-MATL and D-PHYS.
Blood diagnostics modelled on leeches
Researchers in the group of Jean-Christophe Leroux (IPW) have developed a safe and inexpensive device for reliable blood measurements. It works using a suction cup and could also be employed to diagnose the tropical disease malaria – even by non-medical personnel.
