Hansch Award 2024 for Sereina Riniker

The Hansch Award is named after Prof. Corwin Hansch, a pioneer of the quantitative structure-activity relationship and physical chemistry applied to drug discovery. This year the Hansch Award has been awarded to Sereina Riniker, Associate Professor at the Institute of Molecular Physical Science, who has made significant contributions to the field.
Ralph Shangraw Memorial Award for Jean-Christoph Leroux

The Ralph Shangraw Memorial Award is awarded by the IPEC Americas Foundation for outstanding research in the study of excipients or excipient-related technology. It recognizes contributions, e.g., to an understanding of the basic science underlying excipient functionality, excipient safety, or the development of new excipients and rational regulatory standards. This year the award endowed with $10,000 goes to Jean-Christophe Leroux, Professor for Drug Formulation and Delivery at D-CHAB.
10 years of community, passion, innovation

A new fall semester has just begun – not only for the students but also for the Society for Women in Natural Sciences (WiNS) at ETH Zurich. The association, consisting of students, doctoral students, and research staff from D-CHAB, D-BIOL, D-PHYS, and D-MATL, has been organizing exciting events supporting women in science for 10 years now. What has WiNS achieved so far and where is it heading? Some members provide insights and explain why they enjoy being part of this community.
Promotion at D-CHAB

Andrea Burden, Tenure Track Assistant Professor at D-CHAB, is appointed Associate Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology. Andrea Burden's research in pharmacoepidemiology, with focus on the role of metabolic syndrome on the safety/effectiveness of medications and the side-effects of paracetamol and rise in opioid consumption in Switzerland, has contributed significantly to establishing the subject at ETH Zurich and communicating its importance to Swiss political circles and the general public.
New professor at D-CHAB

Sarbajit Banerjee, currently Professor at Texas A&M University in College Station, USA, is appointed as Full Professor of Battery Materials at D-CHAB. Sarbajit Banerjee’s award-winning research is concerned with the mechanisms underlying energy storage. As a professor at D-CHAB and Head of the Electrochemistry Laboratory at PSI, Sarbajit Banerjee will strenghten the cross-collaboration between the two institutions.
