Additional information

Yinyin Bao is a research group leader in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at ETH Zurich.

Yinyin Bao was born in Lu’an, Anhui (China) in 1986. He received his bachelor degree in Macromolecular Materials and Engineering (2007) from Hefei University of Technology and PhD degree in Polymer Chemistry (2012) from University of Science and Technology of China. From 2012 to 2014 he completed a postdoctoral research at KU Leuven (Belgium), and then became a Marie Curie IntraEurapean Fellow in the French National Center for Scientific Research at University of Paris Sud. He joined the group of Prof. Jean-Christophe Leroux at ETH Zürich in 2016, and he was promoted to a senior scientist position as a group leader at the end of 2018. From Sep. 2022 he moved to the group of Prof. Chih-Jen Shih as a joint senior scientist.

Dr. Bao led a highly interdisciplinary project funded by Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) about 3D printed biodegradable personalized medical devices (Sinergia, 2018-2022), in collaboration with three different groups at ETH Zürich, Zurich Animal Hospital and University Hospital Zürich. He is also a recipient of Spark grant from SNSF (2020-2021). He is currently PI of a research grant from Fondation Claude et Giuliana (2019-2023). Thanks to the generous finiancial support, he is working on the topic about polymerization-mediated solid-state molecular fluorescence. His research interest remains the application of polymer chemistry in biomedicine and optoelectronics, such light-emitting materials, drug delivery, 3D printed medical devices, etc. He has published 50 scientific papers and 1 book chapter with H-index of 27 and citations > 2100. He has served as invited reviewer for international journals in chemistry and materials area including Nature, JACS, Chem, Angew Chem, Adv Mater, Nat Comm, etc. He is also an invited reviewer for French National Research Agency (ANR, 2019, 2021, 2022), an evaluation committee member of the Cancer ITMO (Multi-Organisation Thematic Institute) of the French Alliance for Life Sciences and Health (AVIESAN, 2021, 2022, 2024), and a topic advisory panel member of the journal Chemosensors since 2020.
