Dr. Lucas Francisco dos Santos

Research area

Lucas Francisco dos Santos is a postdoctoral researcher in the Institute for Chemical and Bioengineering at ETH Zurich, working with Professor Gonzalo Guillén Gosálbez. He completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering with a double degree from the University of Alicante and the State University of Maringa, focusing on the use of surrogate models to allow optimal process design. Lucas is currently contributing to projects funded by the SNSF and the NCCR Catalysis, with a particular emphasis on advanced life-cycle impact assessments and mathematical tools to promote a more sustainable chemical industry.

Lucas' broader research interests include analyzing pathways for a defossilized and more circular chemical sector, spanning from case studies to algorithm development. He actively collaborates with aCe (ETH group), EPFL, ICIQ, IBM Research, and other institutions. He is also engaged in teaching Case Studies in Process Design as well as mentoring PhD and MSc students.
