Research Directions and Achievements of the Baiker group
Baiker's research in heterogeneous catalysis is highly interdisciplinary, including surface science and solid state chemistry, as well as chemical reaction engineering. This strategy has led to significant contributions in several fields of heterogeneous catalysis. Major contributions have been made in the fields: Catalyst design and novel catalytic materials; Catalysis related to environmental control; Fine chemicals synthesis; Catalysis in supercritical fluids; Catalyst characterization and in situ spectroscopy. Baiker has supervised over 100 Ph.D students and about 80 postdoctoral students, among them several have achieved leading positions in industry or academia. He also greatly contributed to the scientific community by serving as a member of the editorial boards of over a dozen journals in the field of catalysis and material sciences and activities in several committees. His strong link to industry is reflected by the many co-operation he had with industrial partners.
