With heartfelt sadness, the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry announces that our friend and colleague Prof. em. Jack Dunitz passed away peacefully on September 12, 2021 at the age of 98 after a short illness.
Jack Dunitz witnessed and significantly shaped the development of modern crystallography for more than 70 years. Today, many of his contributions are taught in chemistry textbooks. A companion and friend to countless scientists, he was a walking history book with stories shared with incomparable elan. Jack was universally respected for his wit, vitality, and critical spirit. His knowledge and interests extended from chemistry and the natural sciences to literature, music, and the arts. He will be sorely missed.
